Full-Service Junk Removal in Peterborough — We Do the Loading

When loading the dumpster yourself isn't the right call — small volume, awkward access, or you just want it gone today — we send a crew. Pricing runs by truck space used, not by item, plus the $65 extended-area fee. Final pricing confirmed before removal begins.

What size dumpster do I need for Peterborough projects?

Sizing matters more than people think. Go too small and you're paying for a second haul — which is a much bigger deal from Peterborough than it is closer to home, given the drive. Go too big and you're paying for empty space. Here's what actually fits.

6-yard ($429)

About two pickup-truck loads. Good for a small bathroom remodel, a shed or half-garage cleanout, a small deck tear-down, or dense debris like tile and plaster.

14-yard ($449)

About three to four pickup-truck loads, and honestly the size most Peterborough homeowners end up with. Full garage cleanouts, basement cleanouts in an older home, mid-size kitchen or bath renos, clearing out an attic before listing the house. If you're not sure what to book, book this one.

20-yard ($499) — Most Popular

About five to six pickup-truck loads. Right for a whole-house declutter before a move, a single-layer asphalt roof tear-off, a mid-size reno generating drywall and framing waste, or an estate cleanout where it's mostly furniture. Roof debris is heavy — a typical 2,000 sq ft home sheds 3-4 tonnes of shingles, so figure roughly $200-340 in overage at $135/tonne past the 1.5-tonne allowance, and you're still cheaper than jumping straight to a 30 or 40. Only size up if the roof's over 2,500 sq ft or it's a two-layer tear-off.

30-yard ($849) and 40-yard ($899)

Contractor territory. Gut-rehabs, additions, multi-room renos, commercial clearouts, two-layer roof jobs. Most homeowners don't need this; most contractors on a real project do.

Stuck between two sizes? Go bigger — especially out here. The $50 gap between a 14 and a 20 is nothing compared to paying for a second trip from Orono because the first one filled up early.

What about the Hybrid service in Peterborough?

The Hybrid fits the gap between "I'll load it myself" and "just haul it all away for me." You get the bin delivered, plus a crew for a set block of time to handle the heavy stuff — the couch, the old appliance, the bathtub — while you handle the rest on your own schedule.

It's the right call when you've got a mix of light junk you don't mind loading yourself, plus a few genuinely heavy items you don't want to wrestle alone.

14-yard + 2 hrs labour$799
20-yard + 3 hrs labour$949
30-yard + 4 hrs labour$1,199

Plus the $65 extended-area fee, added once per booking. If you're not sure whether Hybrid, straight bin rental, or full junk removal is the right call, mention what you're working on when you call (289) 886-3329 and we'll point you at the cheaper option.

Where can I put a dumpster in Peterborough?

Your driveway, heavy end over a flat, hard surface, is the default. Asphalt handles a roll-off fine. Pavers or stamped concrete need a little more care — tell us ahead of time and we'll bring 2x12 boards to protect the surface under the wheels and the heavy end.

  • Overhead clearance. The truck needs about 22 feet of vertical room. Mature trees on older streets can pinch that — we'll walk it if it looks tight.
  • Width and approach. Most driveways handle a roll-off fine, but the truck needs a straight pull-in. Narrower downtown driveways and tight side streets are the two things that trip us up most.
  • Slope. Steep driveways need the bin sitting across the grade, not pointed down it.
  • Wires and gates. If you're not sure your driveway clears, snap a photo from the street and text it over before we show up.

For lawn drops, we lay planks under the wheels. We won't drop on grass for a project running more than a couple weeks, or if it's been raining. Soft ground won't hold a loaded bin.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Peterborough?

Two situations, two answers.

On your own property

Driveway, lawn, parking pad — you don't need anything. That covers almost every residential job we do.

On the road or boulevard

If your driveway genuinely can't fit the bin and it needs to sit in the city right-of-way, that's a Road Occupancy Permit through the City of Peterborough's Traffic Division.

Applications go through the City's Engineering and Traffic Division — email RoadOccupancyPermits@peterborough.ca or call (705) 742-7777. We don't have exact processing times or fees confirmed, so it's worth reaching out directly and asking before you plan around a curb-side placement.

Bottom line: if you've got the driveway space, there's nothing to file. If you don't, call us before you book and we'll walk you through it.

How fast can you get a dumpster out to me?

Same-day is possible for Peterborough if you call early and the size you want is on the lot — but since it's a 45-50 minute drive each way from Orono, this route needs more advance planning than our closer Durham Region towns. Calling before 11 AM gives us the best shot at fitting it into the day's route. Next-day is the safe bet if you call later, on a weekend, or if the size you need is out on another job.

Should I rent a dumpster or hire junk removal?

Two different jobs, and picking the right one saves you money.

Rent a bin if:

You've got time, the volume's on the bigger side, the project's going to generate waste over several days, and you don't mind doing the loading yourself.

Hire us to haul it if:

You want it gone today, loading it yourself isn't happening, the volume's small to medium, or it's mostly heavy stuff where the labor is the actual job.

Minimum Pickup$150
¼ Load$295
½ Load$445
¾ Load$595
Full Load (~17 yd³)$745

Plus the $65 extended-area fee either way. Not sure which tier fits? Send us a few photos and we'll size it before we show up.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

7 days is standard, same as everywhere else we serve. If your job's running long, call before the window closes and we'll extend it or swap the bin. Past 7 days without a heads-up, it's $15/day.

What can't go in the bin?

The short list — what actually comes up, and what to do instead.

  • Liquids and chemicals — paint, oil, solvents, pesticides, propane tanks. The City of Peterborough runs a free Household Hazardous Waste Depot at 400 Pido Road, open Wednesday to Saturday, 8 AM to 4 PM, year-round.
  • Batteries, any kind — also accepted free at the Pido Road depot, or at drop-off points around the city including City Hall and the Peterborough Public Library.
  • Asbestos-containing materials — needs a specialized hauler, not us.
  • Fridges, freezers, AC units — these carry regulated refrigerants and need special handling, so there's an extra fee if one goes in the bin unannounced. Tell us ahead and we'll factor it in.
  • Mattresses — accepted at the Bensfort Road landfill under the region's mattress recycling program; we can route them there for you, just let us know they're coming so we can count them at pickup.

Not sure about something? Call before you toss it — cheaper than finding out at the landfill gate.

Peterborough Dumpster Rental FAQs

How much is a 20-yard dumpster in Peterborough, ON?

$499 base, plus a flat $65 extended-area delivery fee since Peterborough sits about 45-50 minutes from our Orono depot. That covers delivery, pickup, dumping, and the standard 7-day rental window, with 1.5 tonnes of weight included. The 20-yard fits about five to six pickup-truck loads — our most popular size for whole-house decluttering and single-layer roof tear-offs. Roof debris runs heavy: a typical 2,000 sq ft home sheds 3-4 tonnes of shingles, which works out to roughly $200-340 in overage at $135/tonne past the included weight.

Why is there an extra fee for Peterborough?

We're based out of Orono, in Durham Region, and Peterborough is a genuine hour-plus round trip from our yard. The $65 covers that extra drive time and fuel — it's a flat, one-time fee per booking, not a per-size markup, and it's the only thing that changes. Bin and junk removal pricing itself is identical to every other town we serve.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in my driveway in Peterborough?

No. The City of Peterborough doesn't require a permit for a dumpster placed entirely on private property — your driveway, lawn, or parking pad. Permits only come into play if the bin has to sit in the city right-of-way (road, sidewalk, or boulevard), which requires a Road Occupancy Permit through the City's Traffic Division — reach them at RoadOccupancyPermits@peterborough.ca or (705) 742-7777.

How fast can you deliver a dumpster to Peterborough?

Same-day is possible if you call early in the day and the size you want is on the lot, but given the drive, it needs more lead time than our closer Durham towns. Next-day is the more typical, dependable answer for Peterborough bookings.

Can I rent a dumpster for concrete, dirt, or brick in Peterborough?

Not under standard pricing — dirt, soil, concrete, gravel, and asphalt aren't included in our regular rates. Call us before you book; we can sometimes accommodate these with special pricing. The Bensfort Road Waste Management Facility handles heavier construction material directly for City and County residents, with standard tipping fees applying. We do haul tile, plaster, shingles, and other heavy renovation debris in our regular bins.

How long does the rental last?

Standard rental is 7 days, same as everywhere else we serve. Need longer? Call (289) 886-3329 and we'll extend or swap the bin. Past 7 days without a heads-up, it's $15/day.

Who actually shows up to deliver the bin?

Me. I'm a retired first responder running this business myself — one truck, one crew — so the person answering the phone is the same person driving the truck out to Peterborough. No dispatcher, no subcontractor, no franchise call center in between.

Can I get a dumpster delivered to a condo or apartment building in Peterborough?

Sometimes — depends on the building. Places like East City Condos usually have condo board or property-management rules around driveway and loading-zone use, so we coordinate with property managers when needed. For walkup buildings without a dedicated drop spot, our Hybrid service or full junk removal is often a better fit than trying to squeeze a roll-off in.

What can't go in the dumpster?

No liquids, no chemicals, no paint, no propane tanks, no batteries of any kind, no asbestos, no medical waste, no fridges/freezers/ACs without a heads-up. Mattresses are accepted through the region's dedicated recycling program at Bensfort Road — let us know they're coming. If you're not sure, ask before you load.

What materials does the local waste facility refuse?

The City and County's Bensfort Road Waste Management Facility handles general garbage and construction debris with standard tipping fees, but household hazardous waste — paint, oil, chemicals, batteries, propane — has to go to the separate Household Hazardous Waste Depot at 400 Pido Road instead, free of charge, Wednesday to Saturday, 8 AM to 4 PM year-round. Hours and fees change, so it's worth calling ahead before a drop-off.
